DJ Blakey is one of the hottest club and battle DJ on the UK circuit, having previously claimed the 2004 UK Technics/DMC title, as well as winning the UK DMC Team Championship as part of the 'Truesicians' Crew in 2003.
Unlike most of his counterparts he isn't just a turntablist. Blakey has been very active in the club scene, appearing at cutting edge clubs across Europe (Fabric/London, Gatehouse/Derby, Rust/Copenhagen, Savannah/Ibiza, No Fakin'/Liverpool.), whilst regularly holding down residencies in London clubs such as Bar Rumba, 333, Sound, Herbal, Elbow Rooms, and a residency at Eclectic Breaks.
His first release in 2004 was the turntable remix of Kelis' Milkshake, which received heavy rotation on Radio 1, London's Kiss FM and Brighton's Southern FMm as well as being a club favourite.
Since winning the 2004 DMC Final he has been making his mark on the UK Hip Hop and scratch scene, Blakey has been booked to play the world over, spreading his love and skills to audiences in award winning venues in countries as far reaching as; Kenya, Thailand, India, Singapore, Taiwan, China, Japan, Vietnam, Australia, Qatar, Germany, Poland, Austria, Denmark, Spain and the USA.
His strong influence on the UK’s hip hop and scratch culture/scene soon saw him representing the genre in a massive way, with the launch of his BBC Radio 1Xtra show which launched in 2005 and ran for three years. Within this show Blakey interviewed some of the most prolific and respected Artists/ DJ’s in the Hip Hop scene including: Jazzy Jeff, DJ Shadow and Slum Village. But his connection to the world famous BBC Radio 1 network stretched way back to when he became the first person to contribute a mix to the notorious Annie Mac show known now as the ‘Mini Mix’ section of her award winning weekly show.
